BALTIMORE — Baltimore police have released the name of a man who was shot and killed by an off-duty officer during an alleged burglary.

Authorities on Thursday identified the dead man as 20-year-old Darius Miller Jr.

Authorities say police received a 911 call at about 11:30 a.m. Monday from the off-duty police officer, who said he’d shot a suspect who had broken into his home in Northeast Baltimore.

Authorities say a struggle ensued after Miller confronted the officer, who was sleeping at the time, and demanded money. Officials say the officer wrestled the handgun out of the suspect’s hands and shot him.

Online court records indicate that Miller had a lengthy criminal record, including previous arrests for burglary, theft and armed robbery.
