ALTOONA, Pa. — A Pennsylvania corrections officer who is facing felony charges after police say he helped several inmates assault another prisoner has resigned.

The Altoona Mirror reports 23-year-old Dalton Zeiders was listed among resigning employees at the commissioners meeting agenda Tuesday. His resignation was effective Oct. 18.

Police say Zeiders let six inmates out of their cells March 16 to assault another inmate who was believed to have contraband tobacco. Zeiders is facing felony charges of criminal conspiracy and assault of a prisoner along with misdemeanor offenses.

He recently waived his right to a preliminary hearing. His attorney says his client didn’t do it.

The inmates are facing trial for their roles in the assault that hospitalized the victim.
