RIDGELAND, Miss. — Police say a 39-year-old man shot his former girlfriend and her new boyfriend outside a central Mississippi nursing home, wounding both.

Sam Johnson was arrested more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) away Thursday, hours after the shooting in the parking lot of a Ridgeland nursing home.

Ridgeland Police Chief John Neal tells local media that Johnson was arrested in Grenada will be charged with aggravated assault.

Neal says a 35-year-old man was waiting to pick up the 32-year-old woman from work when Johnson arrived. After a disturbance, Neal says Johnson shot the two people.

The woman was shot once while the man, shot multiple times, was wounded more seriously. Neal says both are expected to recover.

Neal says residents at Highland Home, which provides nursing and rehabilitation, weren’t in danger.
