SAC CITY, Iowa — Authorities say a man reported to have been breaking into a northwest Iowa apartment has been shot by a resident.

Sac City police say Bendji Joseph, of Fort Dodge, was breaking into the apartment around 4 a.m. Wednesday when he was shot. Police say Joseph intended to hurt the residents. Police say one of them, Miguel Alcantara, fired a handgun at Joseph and struck him twice.

Joseph has been flown to a Sioux City hospital for treatment. Police say he’s charged with two counts of burglary. Online court records don’t list an attorney who could comment for him.
