FRANKLIN

Carolyn Roush, 78, of Franklin, Indiana passed away on October 23, 2017.

She was born in Paragon, IN on November 7, 1938 to Lawrence and Helen (Henry) Walker. She graduated from Morgantown High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Indiana University in 1961, and later received a Master of Music from Butler University in 1990. It is not often that a person can turn their life’s passion into a fruitful career, but Carolyn was able to use her gift of music to provide many joyous songs to all. She was the Music Director at Tabernacle Christian Church in Franklin for nearly 50 years. She also provided musical direction and was Director for the choirs at the Methodist Community in Franklin. Carolyn shared her talent for musical entertainment with guests at the Manor Restaurant in Franklin for 12 years, and at Lees Inn, Hillview Country Club, and El Dorado Country Club. Carolyn also delighted many with piano entertainment at Von Maur in Greenwood and the Knights of Columbus in Franklin.

She instructed students at several elementary schools in music and piano, as well as at Franklin College and Butler University for over a decade. Carolyn was a beloved piano teacher to many students in her community for over 50 years, and her greatest wish was to instill music in the hearts of all. Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Kent) Burget and Zoanne (Michael) Sharpe; grandchildren, Jessica Bowden (Michael Pennington), Chloe Snider, Emma Burget, Tessa Snider, Tyler and Collin Sharpe; great-granddaughter, Charlize Pennington; sister, Marjorie Ross and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman Walker and Earl Walker; sisters, Catherine Barnes and Helen Louise Woods; nephews, Patrick Woods and Richard Ross. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Butler University School of Music.

The family of Carolyn Roush wishes to thank Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care of Greenwood, Seasons Hospice, and friends and family of Carolyn who provided kindness and support during the last few years of her illness. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm with a funeral services at 2:00 pm in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. A private family burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
