Franklin College

Three to be inducted into hall

A trio of former Franklin College greats will be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame tonight.

Joe Chester, a 1983 graduate, caught 166 passes for a then-record 2,978 yards as a member of the football team and was a two-time NAIA All-American. Chester also lettered four times in track and once in baseball.

Kelly (Vance) Eckman was a four-time HCAC Most Valuable Player for the women’s tennis program before graduating in 2004. Her 52 singles wins are still a school record.

Tim Fish, who graduated in 2007, was a four-time All-HCAC golfer who was named an NCAA Division III All-American in 2006. His single-season and career scoring averages remain the best in program history.

The three also will be honored at halftime of Saturday’s football game against Mount St. Joseph.

Women’s soccer team wins

Junior Maddie Fleet scored twice in the first eight minutes to lead Franklin College to a 2-1 win against Rose-Hulman on Wednesday night, creeping closer to a conference title.

The Grizzlies (11-4, 7-1 HCAC), who got four saves from netminder Lexi Short, have the chance to clinch the regular-season league crown Saturday when they host Anderson.
