BURLINGTON, Vt. — The University of Vermont’s Board of Trustees has approved $1 million in gift funds to go toward advancing the school’s proposed arena project.

The money will support the design development of the multipurpose arena project, with an update to be provided to the board in February 2018. The Burlington Free Press reports the new funds are in addition to two recent $1 million gifts to UVM for the project.

The board approved the initial concept in February, authorizing funds for schematic work and to develop funding plans.

The $80 million concept arena would create a new home for the varsity basketball programs and provide a revamp of the existing athletics complex.
