STERLING, Mass. — Charges for a Massachusetts man accused of stabbing another man in the face and chest have been upgraded after the victim died of his injuries.

Twenty-five-year-old Allen Fawe was arraigned Monday on a murder charge in Clinton District Court.

Fawe is accused of stabbing 39-year-old Jeffrey Joyce during a party in Sterling on Oct. 1. Joyce died Oct. 15.

Fawe was previously taken into custody on assault and battery charges and held without bail.

Police say Fawe has given conflicting statements about his role in the stabbing but has claimed that he was intervening in a fight.

It’s unclear whether Fawe is being represented by an attorney.
