Local bands compete in state finals, invitationals

Local bands competed at their state finals and marched at the famed Lucas Oil Stadium this weekend.

The Blue Regiment of Franklin Community High School marched in the Indiana State School Music Association scholastic state finals at Lawrence Central High School. They did not place.

Local bands also performed at Lucas Oil Stadium over the weekend, marching at Bands of America.

Center Grove’s marching band snagged 8th place out of 68 groups at the Indianapolis Regional.

The Marching Woodmen of Greenwood Community High School marched in the Indianapolis Regional preliminaries where they placed second in their class and 15th overall, just missing the finals, said John Morse, marching band director.

They also marched at the Whiteland Community High School invitational where they snagged first place in Class B with honors for best visual and general effect.

Whiteland Community High School’s Marching Warriors performed in exhibition at their own invitational.

Whiteland, Center Grove and Greenwood will attempt to earn a berth to state finals this weekend when they march at the Indiana State School Music Association semistate competition. Franklin Community High School will host the Class D portion of that competition.

Greenwood competes at 1:15 p.m. at Pike High School. Whiteland and Center Grove go to Ben Davis High School for Class A competition, where Center Grove kicks off the day at 1 p.m., and Whiteland competes next at 1:13 p.m.
