MORGANTOWN

James E. “Jim” Burke, age 73, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 18, 2017 at his home in Morgantown.

By his side, was his devoted wife of 51 years, Vickie L. (Snider) Burke, whom he married on April 14, 1966 in Wise, Virginia. Also by his side, were his loving children, Jennie (Kyle) Hogue of Greenwood, Tammy (Gian Spadone) Dotson of Trafalgar, Rebecca (Mike) Taylor of Martinsville, Jason (Dusty) Burke of Morgantown, Jeremy (Angela) Burke of Bargersville and Enos Dotson of Trafalgar. Jim is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Jim was born December 8, 1943, in Camden, New Jersey, to the late Richard L. and Marguerite (Henry) Burke. He served as a Medic with the HHC 1/5 25th Infantry Division of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Jim was a decorated soldier, earning three Bronze Stars.

He retired in 2001 from Gaile’s Propane in Morgantown after 10 years of service. After retirement, Jim worked for himself as a HVAC Specialist. He was a member of the Morgantown General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn and the Greenwood American Legion Post 252. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, target shooting and watching western movies. He was a licensed pilot who enjoyed flying his own plane.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jeanne Langley.

Brothers Stan White and Mike Day will conduct a funeral service on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to service time on Saturday. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
