Falling into fun

Fall is in full swing and festivals in the county are gearing up to give you a taste of the harvest.

You can participate in a chili cook off or attend a harvest party that is an alternative to traditional trick or treating.

Here are some fall party options that will give you a chance to enjoy the season.

JOHNSON COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER FALL FESTIVAL, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21, 2160 N. Graham Road, Franklin. Chili cook off is $35. $5 fee for tasting chili. Bean-bag toss, bounce house, face painting, music, raffle and games.

SPOOK-TACULAR FAMILY FUN FAIR, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21, Franciscan Health Center for Women and Children, 8111 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis. Free. Trick or treating, face painting, photo booth, pumpkin decorating, visit with superhero characters and IMPD mounted patrol, kids’ costume parade.

CHILDREN’S HARVEST PARTY, 2 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 28, First Assembly of God, 1035 Hospital Road, Franklin. Open to ages preschool through fifth grade This event is an alternative to Halloween and taking your children trick or treating. Free. Food, games and candy. No costumes.
