2 Braves earn berths

A pair of Indian Creek runners placed well enough at the Brown County Regional to earn individual berths in Saturday’s semistate meet at the same location.

In the boys race, junior Nate Decker finished in 17 minutes, 40.06 seconds to place 30th and narrowly edge Silver Creek’s Luke Poe for the 10th and final individual qualifying spot.

Classmate Shaelyn Biddle had a little more breathing room on the girls side, finishing 21st in 21:21.45 to place fifth among advancing individuals.

Volleyball

Rebels take crown

Roncalli swept Perry Meridian 25-18, 25-19, 25-12 on Saturday evening to win the championship match of the Class 4A Decatur Central Sectional.

The Rebels (25-8) will face No. 3 Avon in the semifinals of the Greenfield-Central Regional this Saturday morning.

“It’s special for this group to win the sectional,” Roncalli coach Missy Marsh said. “To return most of last year’s team and come back with a conference title, a county title and now a sectional title, it’s very meaningful. We’re excited for the next challenge.”

Roncalli defeated Pike in the semifinal round, 25-20, 25-15, 25-17.

Franklin College

Tennis team gets bye

Playing its final home match, Franklin College women’s tennis coasted to a 9-0 win against Mount St. Joseph and secured the No. 2 seed in the HCAC tournament.

Karen Dringenburg and Rachel Rose were winners in the top two singles positions and teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles as well. The Grizzlies (11-2, 6-1 HCAC) dropped just seven games across the nine matches.
