SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Prosecutors say a South Carolina man admitted to sexually assaulting a girl and has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The Herald-Journal reports that solicitors for Spartanburg and Cherokee counties say in a statement that 34-year-old Christopher David Strickland was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct connected to a January 2016 incident.
Solicitor Barry Barnette says the victim’s mother noticed a strange spot on her daughter’s neck before taking her to a hospital where nurses found evidence of sexual assault. The child described details to family members about the incident.
Strickland was arrested and charged on Jan. 27, 2016. Deputies later found DNA evidence that strengthened the case against Strickland, who must serve 85 percent of the sentence before he’s eligible for release.
