PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police say a transit driver has been shot as he walked to work in the city’s Strawberry Mansion section.

Police say the driver was shot about 4 a.m. Tuesday and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The man worked for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, which operates buses and trains in and around Philadelphia.

Police didn’t immediately release the man’s name or say whether they have any suspects. They say the shooting began as a robbery, and that the victim was wounded as he tried to run away.

Investigators are hoping surveillance cameras from the area will yield clues.
