Chase on Interstate 65 ends in arrest

A Beech Grove man was arrested after a high-speed chase on Interstate 65 on Friday evening.

Justin Oliver, 26, was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and given traffic tickets for speeding, unsafe lane movement, operating a motor vehicle with a false registration plate and failure to provide a vehicle registration. The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office has been asked to review the case to determine what, if any, additional charges should be filed, Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said.

A deputy was driving south on I-65 south of County Line Road at 11:30 p.m. when he was passed by a motorcycle going about 100 mph, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

The deputy tried to stop the motorcycle, but the driver continued and began weaving in and out of traffic, and going at least 111 mph, the report said. Near the Franklin exit, the deputy lost sight of the motorcycle. A Franklin police officer stopped a motorcycle driven by Oliver just off the interstate on State Road 44, the report said.

Oliver, 1901 Main St., was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail and was released on $2,000 bond.
