Area marching bands compete in weekend events

Local marching bands battled wind and rain to get local competitions in over the weekend.

Center Grove’s Cavalcade of Champions had their Class A and part of the Class B section of the competition canceled. The Center Grove band did not perform in exhibition as planned after rainy conditions hampered the competition, marching band director Kevin Schuessler said.

Bands that did compete across the county snagged top 10 placements, gold ratings and state competition berths.

The Blue Regiment at Franklin Community High School earned a berth to the Indiana State School Music Association scholastic state finals with their gold rating at the scholastic preliminaries at Whiteland Community High School. They will march for a scholastic class state champion at 7:01 p.m. Oct. 21 at Lawrence Central High School.

Whiteland Community High School’s Marching Warriors earned a gold rating and distinction in music and visual for Class A at the open class invitational portion of the ISSMA competition at their school.

The Greenwood Marching Woodmen performed at Center Grove High School, placing second in Class B.

The Marching Braves at Indian Creek High School placed seventh in Class C at Center Grove’s invitational.

Bands in open class will compete in the regional ISSMA competitions this weekend.
