RENO, Nev. — Reno community leaders are mourning the loss of Washoe County District Court Judge Patrick Flanagan.

Judge Connie Steinheimer says Flanagan died on Friday after being hospitalized earlier in the week with flu-like symptoms.

Flanagan was a former lawyer and federal public defender who had served as a district court judge for nine years and was elected chief judge in 2016. He was partially paralyzed in a bicycle accident in 2001.

Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks said Monday that Flanagan was an “amazing man with a superb moral compass” who was “as compassionate as he was tough.” Hicks says his kind spirit and thoughtful commentary touched countless lives in the community.
