CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty in the slaying in Corpus Christi of his friend, who officials say was shot after he struck his daughter with a gun during an argument last year.

A jury on Friday sentenced Feliciano Cruz after finding him guilty of murder in the death of Monica Ramos. Prosecutor Reynaldo Pena told jurors that Cruz was under the influence and was being driven around by Ramos when he and his daughter started arguing. Cruz’s daughter got out of the car and was pistol whipped by Cruz.

Pena says that the girl then heard shots.

Cruz also was found guilty of manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, injury to a child and tampering with evidence.
