Richard “Hank” Sturm

Richard “Hank” Sturm, 88, of Greenwood, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 4, 2017. He was born on February 16, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Harry and Alta Sturm. Hank was a 1947 graduate of Southport High School. On June 4, 1950, he married Roxann Truitt. He and his father built their first home.

Hank proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was employed with Indiana Bell (now A.T.&T.) for 43 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. An active member of Southport Presbyterian Church, he served as an ordained deacon and elder.

Hank loved his family and spending time with them. Traveling became one of his passions, as he and Roxann covered most of the U.S. as well as points overseas.

Hank is survived by his wife of 67 years, Roxann; his sons, Steven (Nancy) and David ( Barbara) Sturm; grandchildren, Joshua (Julie) Sturm; Caroline (Tim) Kleyn; Emily Sturm; Daniel (Anna) Sturm; Jonathan Sturm; Melanie Sturm; Michael Sturm; Anastasia Sturm; Gregory (Shelby) Sturm; Laura (Joel) Stafford; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond Sturm; sister, Mildred Constable; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Sturm. He is preceded in passing by daughter, Karen Sue Sturm; and brothers, Harvey, Howard, and Roland Sturm.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2017 at Southport Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center and one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Southport Presbyterian Church.
