Norma Jean Harmon

GREENWOOD

Norma Jean Harmon, age 89, of Greenwood, Indiana, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Indiana. Norma was born on June 1, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Margaret and Norris Cunningham, deceased. She married the love of her life, Ray Denzel Harmon on November 3, 1950 having almost 52 years together before his passing.

As a child she attended St. Catherine of Sienna, winning a scholarship in math competing with 400 other Catholic schools, for her freshman year at St. Agnes Academy. She graduated from Manual High School. Early in her 20’s she worked at RCA and met her husband and eventually beginning their family. They had 5 children together with 2 step children from Ray’s previous family. She enjoyed raising her children and encouraging them in their spiritual upbringing and activities they enjoyed. She taught children’s Sunday School for 20 years and volunteered and led the children’s Bible School. Later she taught her adult Bible Class. After her children were raised, she worked at the Fashion Shop in Greenwood for 10 years retiring to take care of her husband when he became ill.

Norma is survived by her 2 daughters, Nancy (Don) Bunch, Susan (Darren) Johnson, and 2 sons, Thomas (Sherry) Harmon, and Steven (Kelly) Harmon. She had one daughter preceding her in death, Julie (John) Zanker. Norma had 2 step children, Donna Stillabower and Richard (Ruth) Harmon. Norma has 1 surviving sister, Margie (Monty) Montgomery, a half-brother, Ronnie Cunningham and a half-sister, Sherry Ruth Ann Taylor. Deceased siblings were a brother, Harold Cunningham, and 2 sisters, Phyllis Rinehart, and Shirley Meador. She has 13 grandchildren (Sally, Ryan, T.J., Jake, Josh, Samantha, Jon, Jeff, Luke, Heidi, Tony, Chris and Molly), 6 step-grandchildren (Gary, Angie, Lisa, Rick, Lynn, and Jennifer), 13 great-grandchildren, 14 step great-grandchildren with also many nieces and nephews.

The viewing will be held at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, there is a viewing 1:00 p.m. and funeral services to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
