TRENTON, N.J. — A shooting in New Jersey’s capital city has left a woman dead and a teenage girl seriously injured.

Authorities say it doesn’t appear that either person was the intended target of the shooting, which occurred around 3:10 p.m. Friday in the area of North Willow Street and Carver Lane in Trenton. But a motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Authorities say both victims were driven to the hospital before police arrived on scene.

Fifty-eight-year-old Trenton resident Wilma Rutledge was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting occurred, while a 14-year-old girl was being treated for wounds to her arm and torso. The teen’s name has not been disclosed, and further details on her condition were not available Saturday.
