FALL RIVER, Mass. — Two people have been charged in connection with a beating that left a 63-year-old man dead in Massachusetts last week.

Forty-four-year-old Scott Rodrigues pleaded not guilty to murder Friday at his arraignment in Fall River. His co-defendant, 41-year-old Mendi Perry, pleaded not guilty to an assault charge. They were both held without bail.

Authorities say the victim, Dennis Cousineau, was found lying on the ground unresponsive Sunday night. The Fall River man died of his injuries at a hospital on Thursday.

Cousineau suffered blunt force trauma and skeletal fractures. His death was ruled a homicide.

Prosecutors say a witness had told police she saw a man and a woman beating Cousineau. She identified the man and woman as Rodrigues and Perry. The pair was arrested on Thursday night.
