BARRE, Vt. — The Barre Town school board has agreed to reconsider a school district merger for a second time.
The Times Argus reports school board officials on Wednesday voted to revisit the Barre merger. Barre Town voters had previously voted to reject the merger twice.
Under the proposal, the two-town Barre Supervisory Union would merge into a single union school district. One school board would manage elementary schools in Barre and Barre Town along with Spaulding High School and the Central Vermont Career Center.
School districts across the state have merged under Act 46. The districts that merge stand to gain tax incentives and state grants.
School Board Chairman Chad Allen says a merger proposal could be ready in time for the Town Meeting Day ballot in March.
