PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A former North Providence police officer serving a 20-year prison sentence for burglary and attempted theft will be released on parole.

The Rhode Island Parole Board tells WPRI-TV (http://bit.ly/2ksffFD ) that Michael Ciresi’s release is tentatively scheduled for this month after his parole was unanimously approved Sept. 6.

The suspect in a 2004 armed robbery told police that Ciresi put him up to it. Jurors convicted Ciresi in 2008.

Ciresi had requested early release in 2014, but was denied.

He is currently being held in Cranston.
