ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A 34-year-old Mountain Village man is charged in his girlfriend’s death.

Alexie Walters is charged with second-degree murder, assault and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of 22-year-old Gertrude Queenie this week.

Alaska State Troopers say they were notified late Wednesday about an assault in the village. Troopers say Walters barricaded himself at his home with Queenie inside and he also reportedly assaulted others in the community.

According to troopers, two village police officers went to the home to check on Queenie but fled when Walters fired a shotgun from the doorway.

Troopers arrived early Thursday, but were enabled to make contact with Walters, who later ran out of the house. A village officer found Queenie dead inside the home.

Walters turned himself in later Thursday morning. Online court records don’t list an attorney for Walters.
