NEBO, N.C. — A shootout in a garage in western North Carolina has left one man dead and at least one man injured.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office told local media that 33-year-old Joshua Eric Kelley of Nebo died at an Asheville hospital Tuesday night.

The sheriff’s office said Kelley and three men went to a garage in Nebo early Monday and began firing into the building.

The sheriff’s news release said four other men in the garage were defending themselves and were not likely to be charged.

A man with Kelley, 43-year-old Michael Allen Spencer of Nebo, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and armed robbery. It was not known Spencer has a lawyer. Deputies are looking for the other two men in the attack.
