BROCKTON, Mass. — Prosecutors say a Massachusetts woman told police she was “dope sick” and trying to contact her drug dealer on the phone when she crashed into an SUV, leaving the driver dead.
Danielle Mastro pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Brockton to motor vehicle homicide in the death of 58-year-old Deborah Combra, of Bridgewater. Bail was set at $50,000 cash.
Authorities say the Pembroke woman was behind the wheel Tuesday when she slammed the SUV from behind in Brockton. That vehicle then hit a dump truck.
Prosecutors say Mastro told police she was looking to buy heroin. She allegedly said she had been drinking vodka that day.
Authorities say Mastro tried to walk to her drug dealer after the crash. She was later apprehended.
Mastro’s lawyer says she has suffered from addiction for years.
