PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Brown University says its endowment has climbed to $3.5 billion.

The Ivy League school in Providence on Tuesday announced that its endowment produced a 13.4 percent return for the fiscal year that ended in June.

The endowment has grown from $2.6 billion in 2012.

The school says the endowment distributed $179 million to its operating budget during the fiscal year, amounting to about $19,000 per student.

The annual cost of attendance for an undergraduate at Brown this year is $71,050, including tuition, room, board and other expenses. The school says 43 percent of the most recent incoming class received scholarships based on need, with an average award of $44,224.
