Businesses to conduct ceremonies for bereaved families

Several ceremonies this month will help families who have experienced infant or pregnancy loss.

The Johnson Memorial Hospital Foundation in partnership with Johnson Memorial Hospital’s Maternity Care Center and the Love, Lucas organization will conduct a remembrance ceremony and memory balloon release at 4 p.m. Saturday at the reflection garden on the Johnson Memorial Hospital campus, 1125 W. Jefferson St., Franklin.

Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, will have a ceremony at 4 p.m. Oct. 15.

The hour-long program includes the opportunity to share and honor babies, a therapeutic activity for parents and grandparents, activities for siblings, a ribbon pinning ceremony and a dessert reception.

Attendees also will hear from authors of books, including from Sherokee Ilse, who has written books on infant loss and bereavement.

The annual events offer an opportunity to remember those who have been touched by miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS or the death of a newborn.
