Claris G. Walker

Claris G. “Bob” Walker, age 93, passed away September 29, 2017 at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. He was a resident of Trafalgar.

Claris was born on October 27, 1923, in Spearsville, to the late Virgil E. and Mabel L. (Laughlin) Walker. He was a 1942 graduate of Helmsburg High School and went on to serve as a Corporal during World War II with the Battery A – 253rd Armored Field Artillery Battalion attached to the 4th Armored Division of the United States Army. Claris was awarded the EAME Theater Campaign Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars.

He retired in 1980 as a Welder for Chevrolet in Indianapolis after 33 years of service. Claris also farmed for over 30 years in Johnson County. He was a member of the American Legion, First Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin, Johnson County Farm Bureau and was 60 year member of both the Morgantown Masonic Lodge and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite.

Claris is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a sister in law, Beulah Walker of Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Omer, Carl, Paul “Doc”, Laughlin, Ray, Thelma, Emma, Lucille Walker and Anna Mae Cummings.

The Rev. Cleon Wright will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from noon until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. The Morgantown Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military Rites presented the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
