Man faces child molesting charge

A Greenwood man was charged with child molesting after a girl told police he touched her repeatedly over a few years.

James W. Sarber, 69, was charged with the felony and arrested this week.

The elementary-age girl told police Sarber had touched her inappropriately when no one else was around, according to the police report.

Sarber told police he liked being close to the child because it made him feel like someone cared about him, the report said.

Sarber also told police he was not touching the child in a sexual way, and that he had said she should tell him if she didn’t want him to touch her, the report said.

After talking with police, Sarber decided to get mental health treatment and told therapists he had touched the girl at least 100 times over the years, the report said.

Sarber, 115 W. County Line Road, was released from the Johnson County jail on $6,600 bond.
