Volleyball

Braves pick up 20th win

Taylor Burkett totaled 14 kills and three aces, leading Indian Creek to a 25-23, 25-14, 25-17 victory against Southwestern (Shelby) on Monday.

Malea Brownfield chipped in with eight digs for the Braves (20-6).

Cougars get past Hawks

Greenwood Christian powered past Decatur Central on Monday, 25-13, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19.

Grace Peters had eight kills and 14 digs to lead the Cougars (19-3), while Izzy Reed added seven aces and five kills.

Aubrey Odgers and Sierra Gilson headed up the defensive effort with 25 and 14 digs, respectively.

Lancers sweep Waldron

Edinburgh defeated Waldron in straight sets Monday, 25-18, 25-13, 25-22. The victory keeps the Lancers (8-17, 4-1) in the hunt for a share of the Mid-Hoosier Conference crown. They’ll face league leader Hauser next week.

Rebels coast by Heritage

Roncalli rolled past Heritage Christian in three sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-9.

Trojans shut out Pioneers

Megan Perry had a goal and two assists as Center Grove rolled past Mooresville 4-0 on Monday.

Athena Passafiume, Piper Belden and Josten Reeves also scored goals for the Trojans (9-3-3), who host Carmel in a showdown for the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference title Wednesday.

Ella Thompson and Emily Andersen split time in goal and kept a clean sheet.

Rebels advance in county tourney

Sophia Dietz scored twice and Kelly Grube added a goal and an assist as Roncalli defeated visiting Southport 5-0 in Marion County tournament play.

Emily Sonderman and Isabella Battiston also scored goals for the Rebels.

Roncalli wins tourney opener

Robert Thang and Mateo Gonzalez found the back of the net as Roncalli picked up a 2-1 overtime victory against Southport in the first round of the Marion County tournament Monday.

Sectional draw set

Mid-State Conference rivals Greenwood and Franklin will face off when play begins today at the Center Grove Sectional. The tournament pairings were drawn Monday evening.

In Wednesday’s semifinals, Indian Creek will square off against Whiteland, while the host Trojans will take on the Greenwood-Franklin winner.

Center Grove beat defending sectional champion Franklin earlier this season to win the Johnson County tournament title.

Whiteland dominates in finale

In a battle of Warriors, Whiteland closed its regular season in style with a 5-0 triumph against Warren Central on Monday.

Quinten Gillespie, Caleb Scott and Corey Ulrich swept the singles points for Whiteland (15-4).

Mason Laugle and Garrison Pelfree won at No. 1 doubles, while Lane Stephenson and Travis Robinson rolled without dropping a game at No. 2.

Clark-Pleasant wins league title

The Clark-Pleasant Middle School team won the Junior Mid-State title over the weekend, edging Greenwood in the final.

Dylan Gross and Ty McCullars won in the top two singles positions against Greenwood, with the No. 1 (Carson Baumann/Ariss Mardanzai) and No. 2 (Chase Koester/Kai Koester) doubles teams also picking up points.

Michael Davis won in a tiebreaker at No. 3 singles to wrap up a semifinal win over Plainfield.

Clark-Pleasant wins Mid-State

Paced by rounds of 38 from Will Davis and Jack Besner, Clark-Pleasant Middle School won the Mid-State Conference championship by 11 strokes over runner-up Greenwood.

Davis won medalist honors in a playoff. Connor Soultz placed sixth overall with a 44.
