Students from area schools make all-state choir group

Dozens of students from local schools made the Indiana All-State Choir.

Students who made the statewide choir will be a part of the Indiana Music Educator’s State Conference later this year.

Franklin Community High School students who were named to the choir are: Ellie Bennett, Carly Bowers, Dylan Campbell, McKayla Cox, Jaxson Deno, Sydney Isley, Cara Janis, Hannah Johnson, Alexis King, Sydney Ladd, Katie McKee, Addie Mudd, Mason Rutan, Kevin Thompson and Gontri Wilson.

Roncalli High School students on the choir are Chris Figueroa, Katie Minton, Levi Ralston, Maggie Schoening and Adam Wolf.

Scholarship available for future teachers

Aspiring teachers can apply for a scholarship.

Applications for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship are being accepted through Nov. 30.

The program offers 200 renewable scholarships of $7,500 each year (up to $30,000) to students who commit to teaching in Indiana for five consecutive years after graduation.

Applications are available at scholartrack.IN.gov.

Indiana Youth Institute conference planned

The Indiana Youth Institute will host its annual conference Nov. 28 and 29 at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.

The conference will focus on youth development, health and safety, learning environments, family and community engagement and program assessment. Several workshops also will address nonprofit management.

Workshops will focus on the impact of social-emotional learning, strategies to address youth mental health issues, poverty impact and more.

Keynote speakers include former foster child and now youth advocate Ashley Rhodes-Courter. Kevin Carroll, author of the “Red Rubber Ball” book series, will speak Nov. 29.

Register online at iyi.org/conference through Nov. 14 for the two-day rate of $250 or the one-day rate of $150. After Nov. 14, register and pay at the event at a cost of $300 for two days and $175 for one day.
