Jewelene (Winchester) Lavender 92, of Indianapolis, passed away, Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born November 27, 1924 in Cooperative, McCreary County, Kentucky to Haney P. and Pearl M. (Bell) Winchester.
She married Harold K. Lavender on August 1, 1942 in McCreary County, Kentucky, who preceded her in death on April 5, 2004.
She was a member of Whitley City Church of God in Whitley City, Kentucky, where she was a member of the women’s ministry and prayer group.
She had worked for Nilges Bakery and Bob’s Drug Store, both on South East Street on Indianapolis’s southside. Survivors include her son, the Rev. Michael W. Lavender (Melinda) of Columbus, daughters, D. Elizabeth “Liz” McLaughlin (Robert “Bob”) of Indianapolis, and Patricia M. Hoffman (Richard Jr.) of Fortville; eight grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson (Judd) of Fort Wayne, the Rev. Dan McLaughlin (Denise) of Bargersville, Timothy Cline (Mary) of Irvine, Kentucky, Christopher Cline (Jeanna) of Greenfield, Jason Lavender (Amanda) of Westport, Robin Pate (Donnie) of Greenwood, Stacy Avila of Trafalgar and Dana Selke (Audrey) of Evansville; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Annabelle Gregory of Coopersville, Kentucky, Helen Ross (Logan) of Revelo, Kentucky, Jean Bloemker (Jim) of Versailles; brother-in-law, James Lavender of Indianapolis, and sister-in-law, Juanelle Cross of Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Jimmy Winchester and Larry Winchester, sister Judy Braden; infant sister, Carol Valda Winchester; and an infant great-grandson, Luke Selke.
Friends may call today, Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4 until 7 p.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. The Rev. Bruce Dixon will conduct a service on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m. at Pine Knot Funeral Home, 140 E. Cal Hill Spur, Pine Knot, KY 42635, with visitation from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service time. Burial will be at Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery in Strunk, McCreary County, Kentucky.
