Police investigate area break-ins, thefts

A woman was asleep early Tuesday when she heard banging and glass breaking at her Franklin home.

Police found that someone had likely come into her home through the broken window and taken her purse, and found that other vehicles were broken into in the Jefferson Meadows neighborhood on the east side of the city.

At least six residents in the 1400 and 1500 blocks of Williamsburg Lane and first block of Carrollwood Meadows reported a vehicle or car break-in that happened Monday night or early Tuesday.

At 5:06 a.m. Tuesday, a resident reported that she was sleeping when she heard banging and glass breaking at the back of her house. A purse, containing multiple credit and gift cards, was missing from her kitchen table, according to a report from the Franklin Police Department.

A police dog was called to the home and tracked the scent from the home to a field near the neighborhood. A shirt that did not belong to the woman was later found in the front yard, the report said.

At least four residents reported vehicles were rummaged through. Another resident reported that someone attempted to break into a recreational vehicle on his property, according to reports.

Police collected evidence from the home that was burglarized and are continuing to investigate.
