Hit-and-run suspect turns himself in

A man wanted to face a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury has been arrested.

Richard A. Johnson, 19, of 8522 Bluff Road, Indianapolis, turned himself into the Johnson County jail on Saturday.

He is the suspect in the Aug. 7 hit-and-run crash in the Carefree neighborhood in the Center Grove area. Resident Linda Gaither, 70, was hit by a vehicle, throwing her into the air. She suffered internal bleeding, two broken ribs and a broken leg, fractured vertebrae that required a spinal fusion, a collapsed lung, traumatic brain injury and multiple cuts and bruises.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle and evidence that Johnson was driving.

Police had asked for the public’s help in finding Johnson after the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office filed the criminal charge last week.

Johnson posted $200 bond and was released from jail.
