Volleyball

Grizzly Cubs dominate at home

Franklin claimed four consecutive straight-set victories to win its own invitational on Saturday. The Grizzly Cubs (17-3) rolled through Southmont, Greenfield-Central, Franklin Central and Seymour en route to the Gold Division title.

Greenwood split its four matches to finish seventh. The Woodmen (9-16) lost twice in pool play but defeated Southmont and Lawrence Central to win the Bronze Division.

Trojans extend win streak

Class 4A No. 8 Center Grove won its 15th consecutive match on Saturday, a 25-15, 25-23, 25-19 sweep of Mt Vernon (Fortville).

Madison Hammill led the Trojans (18-1) with 29 assists and 10 kills, while Emma Jones had 10 kills and five blocks.

Cougars take two of four

Greenwood Christian salvaged a split at the Warren Central Invitational on Saturday, defeating the host Warriors as well as Class A No. 3 Tindley in straight sets.

The Cougars (16-3) were swept by Hamilton Southeastern and lost a three-set battle with Pike.

Lancers split in Lawrenceburg

Edinburgh won two of its four matches at the Lawrenceburg Invitational on Saturday. The Lancers (7-15) defeated South Dearborn and Covington Latin in straight sets while losing to Hauser and Greensburg.

Grizzly Cubs sweep

Franklin earned a pair of 2-1 wins on Saturday, defeating East Central and Fishers. Owen Atkison had a pair of tallies on the day for the Grizzly Cubs (9-3-1).

Cougars post shutout

Styles McCorkle and Gerrit Huizinga scored goals and assisted on one another’s tallies as Greenwood Christian blanked Seton Catholic on Saturday, 2-0.

Gabe Vessely anchored a strong defensive effort by the Cougars (9-1-1, 5-1 PAAC), making five saves.

Rebels blank Woodmen

Vince Agramonte scored twice to help Roncalli to a 5-0 victory against  Greenwood on Saturday. Michael Shirley, Luke Dow and Robert Thang also scored for the Rebels, while Daniel Woodruff posted the shutout.

Girls soccer

Rebels handle Giants

Fueled by a three-goal performance by Sophia Dietz, Roncalli blanked Ben Davis on Saturday, 5-0. Isabella Battiston and Emily Sonderman also found the net for the Rebels.

Boys tennis

Warriors win own invitational

At Saturday’s Whiteland Invitational, the home team swept its way to victory behind a perfect day from the No. 2 doubles team of Lane Stephenson and Travis Robinson.

The Warriors (12-4) posted 5-0 wins against Batesville and Jennings County and outlasted Shelbyville, 3-2.

Volleyball wins easy pair

Franklin College wrapped up play at the Illinois College tournament on Saturday, posting straight-set victories against Robert Morris (Ill.) and the host school.

Kennedy Surface paced the Grizzlies (8-4) with 18 kills on the day, while Libby Stahl added 41 digs.
