Man shot in Greenwood identified

Investigators have identified the man shot and killed after he forced his way into a Greenwood home earlier this week.

Derrick Brown Jr., 26, of Indianapolis, was identified through fingerprints as the man who died at the home on Bridle Court in the Barton Farms neighborhood, Johnson County Coroner Craig Lutz said.

An autopsy earlier this week determined Brown died of a shotgun wound to the back, Lutz said.

Brown died after a shootout inside the Greenwood home between himself and the resident, Ryan Endress.

Police said Brown forced his way into Endress’ home to rob him, the two struggled and then began firing shots. Endress had multiple guns inside the home, including a shotgun, along with a large amount of drugs, police said. Endress was shot in the thigh.

Investigators were struggling to identify Brown after the shooting because he had no identification.

Johnson County Prosecutor Brad Cooper has said Endress will not face charges in the shooting death because it was self-defense under Indiana law.
