Dinner at vineyard a fundraiser for arts

After a long growing season, it’s time to savor the bounty of the Indiana summer.

The Sycamore at Mallow Run will host an artisan table dinner in support of the Greater Greenwood Arts Council on Sept. 24. Savvy locavores and foodies will have the chance to sample exquisite dishes comprised of locally produced vegetables, fruits and cheeses, all in the idyllic setting of Johnson County’s only vineyard.

The event will help raise money to support the arts in the community, as well as serving for the launching party for Mallow Run’s annual Artist Series wine.

A VIP reception featuring the unveiling of the art will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 24, and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

“We were trying to host an event that was truly an arts council event,” said Barbara Dunn-Stear, president of the Greater Greenwood Arts Council. “This is effort to not just have a great event and have fun and recognize the wine and artist involved, but this is the arts council trying to do something within our mission, because we want to support the artisanal community, including food, beer and wine.”

For the past five years, the Greater Greenwood Arts Council has partnered with Mallow Run Winery to create a unique bottle of wine through the Art Uncorked! series. Local artists are recruited to submit their work to be considered for a label, which Mallow Run then uses on a different variety of wine.

A portion of the wine’s sales go back to the arts council, Dunn-Stear said. Those funds support community art shows, the Art on the Trailways program in Greenwood and other events.

This year, the unveiling will be combined with an artisan dinner provided by Ralph & Ava’s in Mooresville. Much of the produce will be provided by Anderson Orchard and Gregory’s Orchard, both out of Mooresville. Goat cheese for a polenta appetizer will come from Greenville’s Capriole Farms.

Participants will get to enjoy a four-course meal set up among Mallow Run’s vineyard, with atmospheric lighting and music by Jaden Street Jazz.

Tickets to the dinner are $75 per person, with VIP access to the reception before dinner costing $100. People can buy tickets or find more information at mallowrun.com/the-artisan-table-dinner. The Sycamore at Mallow Run Winery is at 7070 W. Whiteland Road, Bargersville.
