NEW YORK — A 17-year-old teenager is dead after a gunman shot him in the chest outside a New York City housing development.

The New York Police Department says the unidentified gunman shot the teenage boy just after 10 p.m. Wednesday then took off after the shooting. Responding police found the victim with a gunshot wound to his torso.

EMS responded and transported the teenager to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim’s identity has not been released as police complete family notification.

NYPD officials say they have made no arrests. The investigation is continuing.
