Harry Thomas “Tom” Paton

BARGERSVILLE

Harry Thomas “Tom” Paton, 84, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 at his home in Bargersville, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves behind his wife, Tamara Paton; his sons, Jeffrey Dean (Wendy) Paton, David Alan (Jennie) Paton, Ramiro Paton, Richard Paton, Regis (Candace) DaSilva, Ramos (Christi) Paton; his stepsons, Sean and Deven Pabey; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry C. and Florence A. (Hurst) Paton; sister, Carol Ann Paton; son, Steven T. Paton, and daughter, Susan J. Morical.

Tom was born in Terre Haute on April 13, 1933.

He graduated from Wiley High School in 1952, and then received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in 1956.

He also served two years in the U.S. Army.

After his military service, he worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a division engineer for 22 years.

He finished his career with the Federal Railroad Administration in 1995 as a regional administrator where he had worked for 21 years.

After retirement, he remained a highly sought-after consultant in railroad safety cases across the country.

He was a member of Saints Francis & Clare Catholic Church in Greenwood.

Tom enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his family and working outdoors in his garden, and he looked forward to annual fall hunting trips with his sons.

Per Tom’s request, there will be no viewing or service, however the family is planning a celebration of life later in the fall.
