Scholarship available for future teachers

Aspiring teachers can apply for a scholarship.

Applications for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship are being accepted through Nov. 30.

The program offers 200 renewable scholarships of $7,500 each year (up to $30,000) to students who commit to teaching in Indiana for five consecutive years upon graduation.

Applications are available at ScholarTrack.IN.gov.

Roncalli marching band on tour

A southside marching band went on a tour of elementary schools.

The Roncalli High School marching band went to southside deanery grade schools to share their talent and encourage young musicians to continue to develop their skills. The tour included stops at Central Catholic, S.S. Francis and Clare, Our Lady of the Greenwood, St. Barnabas and St. Jude Catholic schools.

Auction, dinner hosted for fundraiser

An auction and dinner will help students at Center Grove High School afford choir fees.

The Center Grove Choir Parent Organization is hosting the Encore event from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 1 at Mallow Run Winery, 6964, W. Whiteland Road, Bargersville.

All proceeds will go to scholarships to cover choir fees for students who need financial assistance.

The evening will include dinner, a silent and live auction and music.

Tickets are $40 per person or $310 for a table of eight. Purchase tickets at centergrovechoirs.org and click on “registration,” under “Encore Registration.”

Families can get child seats checked

Franciscan Health Indianapolis will offer free child seat inspections by certified technicians Sept. 21.

The technicians will demonstrate proper use of car seats and booster seats for kids.

The event is 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Franciscan Health Weight Loss Center, 5230 E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis.

Franciscan Health is partnering with the Automotive Safety Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The event coincides with Child Passenger Safety Week.

Language interpreters will be on hand to assist Hispanic and Burmese/Chin caregivers.

Children’s car seats will be provided for families who can prove they are receiving public assistance. The child must be present.
