Greenwood semi truck ban expanded

The number of streets that semi-trucks are prohibited from driving on in Greenwood has expanded.

The Greenwood City Council unanimously approved banning semis on Sherman Drive, from County Line Road to Christy Drive; Christy Drive, from Meridian Street to Airport Parkway; Suncrest Drive, from Meridian Street to Mikes Way; and Mikes Way.

Previously, city council members approved banning truck traffic on Main Street, between Emerson Avenue and U.S. 31; on Alexander Street, between Airport Parkway and Country Aire Lane; and on Country Aire Drive between Country Aire Lane and Emerson Avenue.

The streets were added to the ban to prevent truck traffic in a neighborhood near the southeast corner of Meridian Street and County Line Road.

A commercial development, which will include storage facilities, planned for an area east of the neighborhood had residents concerned about trucks using their streets as a shortcut.
