Schools earn honors for counseling programs

Eleven local schools have been recognized by the Indiana Department of Education for their counseling programs.

Center Grove High School, Center Grove Elementary School, Center Grove Middle School Central, Center Grove Middle School North, Maple Grove Elementary School, North Grove Elementary School, Pleasant Grove Elementary School, Indian Creek Middle School, Indian Creek High School, Union Elementary School and Webb Elementary School have all been named Gold Star Schools for their counseling models.

All but Center Grove High School are new recipients of the award.

Schools earn the designation by completing specific goals identified in a school counseling model, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Education. Schools must raise student success by creating school and community advisory groups that review data, set goals for students and maximize the time of the school counselor, the release said.

Across the state, 104 schools received the designation.
