Auction, dinner hosted for fundraiser

An auction and dinner will help students at Center Grove High School afford choir fees.

The Center Grove Choir Parent Organization is hosting the Encore event from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 1 at Mallow Run Winery, 6964, W. Whiteland Road, Bargersville.

All proceeds will go to scholarships to cover choir fees for students who need financial assistance.

The evening will include dinner, a silent and live auction and music.

Tickets are $40 per person or $310 for a table of eight. They can be purchased at centergrovechoirs.org and by clicking on “registration,” under “Encore Registration.”

Student earns top Boy Scout ranking

A Roncalli High School student has earned the top ranking in Boy Scouts.

Senior Jason Brown earned the ranking of Eagle Scout.

Brown built steps on Roncalli’s campus that connect two practice fields that are divided by a hill.

A group of 15 people helped Brown complete the project in about 160 hours of work. The cost of the project was $1,400 and was funded by friends, family and local businesses.

Roncalli students earn scholarships

Two Roncalli High School students have won scholarships.

Sophomore Sofia Basto and freshman Juan Garcia were awarded the George Greer Memorial Scholarship.

This scholarship was created for Roncalli students who graduated from Central Catholic grade school. Each student won $1,500.

Families can get child seats checked

Franciscan Health Indianapolis will offer free child seat inspections by certified technicians Sept. 21.

The technicians will demonstrate proper use of car seats and booster seats for kids.

The event is 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Franciscan Health Weight Loss Center, 5230 E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis.

Franciscan Health is partnering with the Automotive Safety Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The event coincides with Child Passenger Safety Week.

Language interpreters will be on hand to assist Hispanic and Burmese/Chin caregivers.

Children’s car seats will be provided for families who can prove they are receiving public assistance. The child must be present.
