Charles Samuel Shaner Jr.

Charles Samuel Shaner Jr., 81, of Franklin, passed away at Franklin United Methodist Community on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

Charles was born in Greencastle on July 10, 1935, the son of Charles Samuel and Elizabeth (Varvel) Shaner Sr.

He was a graduate of Greencastle High School and completed four years of vocational school.

Mr. Shaner proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.

He was a member of UAW Local 23, the National Knife Collectors Association, VanBibber Lake Lions Club and attended Putnamville Baptist Church.

He was employed for 32 years as a machine repairman with G.M. Truck and Bus in Indianapolis.

Survivors include his former wife, Wanda Shaner; two children, Connie Wallace, (Randy) of Helotes, Texas, and Charles Joseph Shaner of Port Charlotte, Florida; three grandchildren, Brittanie, Kati and Sara; a great-grandson, Rohan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and David Shaner, and a sister, Joan Irwin.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
