POULTNEY, Vt. — Vermont State Police say a Poultney man has been shot by troopers during a standoff at his home.
Police say 32-year-old Michael Battles was shot early Friday as troopers tried to apprehend him for aggravated domestic assault.
Police say Battles held a flashlight with both hands pointing it out a second-story window like it was a gun. Police say he then reappeared pointing a revolver toward the troopers. The five troopers immediately fired multiple rounds.
Police say Battles was found dead with the revolver in his hand and firearm in a holster on his hip.
They say he had an extensive criminal record with felony convictions that prohibited him from possessing firearms.
The shooting is being investigated. The troopers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
