LACONIA, N.H. — The New Hampshire city that’s home to an annual motorcycle gathering has approved use of six trademarks, including “World’s Oldest Motorcycle Rally.”
The Laconia Sun reports (http://bit.ly/2wV4l0d) five years ago, a company called Good Sports Inc., that sells items at motorcycle rallies registered that trademark, and “America’s Original Riding Rally,” ”In Laconia We Ride,” ”Laconia Bike Week,” Laconia Motorcycle Rally” and “Laconia Motorcycle Week.”
Good Sports got exclusive rights to use the sayings on pins, patches, and clothing.
Laconia’s City Council on Monday approved an agreement with Good Sports in which the trademarks will be assigned to the city. Good Sports won’t be subject to any royalties Laconia collects for its use. In 2023, the 100th anniversary of Motorcycle Week, Good Sports would receive 10 percent of money the city receives in the event it decides to accept corporate sponsorships.
