One injured in accident

An accident on U.S. 31 North sent one driver to the hospital Monday morning.

A car driving north on U.S. 31 collided with another car at the Tracy Road intersection around 8:20 a.m., a New Whiteland Police Department report said.

Sarah Vanwhy, of New Whiteland, was driving north on U.S. 31 when she hit a car driven by Amy Byrum, of Edinburgh, that had turned through the intersection at Tracy Road. Vanwhy told an officer that she didn’t know if she had driven through a red light. Byrum told an officer that she had a green arrow to make the turn, the report said.

Emergency workers spent about 20 minutes freeing Byrum from the car, New Whiteland Fire Department Chief Dale Saucier said.

The Bargersville, Whiteland and Greenwood fire departments all assisted, Saucier said.

Byrum was taken to Indiana University Methodist Health Hospital. Her condition was not available on Wednesday afternoon.
