Columbus man accused of robbery, battery

A Columbus man was arrested last week after police said he beat up a man and stole his phone.

Matthew Capps, 45, was arrested on charges of robbery and battery, as well as an out of county warrant.

After becoming upset with a man Capps knew, Capps went to the man’s Edinburgh apartment in the 300 block of Center Cross Street, punched him, and then left with the man’s phone, an Edinburgh Police Department report said.

The man identified Capps based on a photograph, and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Capps later that day at a home in Taylorsville, the report said.

Capps, 7650 Parland Ct., was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. He was released on $7,600 bond.
